Teaching philosophy:

What is an artist, and how does an artist see? What does it take for somebody to grow as a true artist? These are the questions I ask myself when I approach teaching. I want to equip my students with the necessary critical thinking skills, and foundational principles to developing an artist eye. At the very beginning is hand/eye coordination, and the ability to draw accurately. Then one can learn the science of form, perspective color, and the effects of light. Once this foundation is laid, creative expression with concept, story, medium can be unleashed. One of my slogans is "Care Like Mad"! I find it thrilling to open my students' eyes to all the possibilities of art making when they have practiced the techniques of those basic foundational skills.

My Alma Mater, Art Center College of Design, prides itself on not having professional teachers, but professionals who teach. After three decades of working as a professional artist, with a wealth of experience, I’m honored to be able to give back what I have received.
